From mid-November onwards, Toraya begins the sale of our yearly Chinese zodiac inspired confections. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit and we have prepared an array of confections with cheerful designs.
Through our confections, we hope you can start the new year full of blessings and share the joy and best wishes with your special ones.
Year of the Rabbit Package Petite Yokan

Three varieties of our signature yokan (Yoru no Ume/Night Plum), (Shimmidori/Verdure), and (Omokage/Reminiscence) are adorned with white rabbit designs. The background is inspired by the colors of spring, expressing our hopes of welcoming 2023 and the spring ahead with excitement and joy.

Chinese Zodiac Animal Yokan 『Kakeusagi』 (Delighted Rabbit)

『Kakeusagi』 features the figure of an adorable rabbit hopping around, giddy with delight at the coming of the new year. Red and white color combination is auspicious in Japan, so the yokan makes a perfect gift for sending well wishes.

Fresh Confection 『Secchu Usagi』 (Rabbit in the Snow)

White azuki beans scattered throughout joyo dough (containing grated yam) resemble white rabbits dotted across a snowy landscape. The green layer is made by adding flour to bean paste and steaming it and flavored with matcha green tea, evoking the image of new shoots sprouting up from underneath the snow. Looking at this confection, one can imagine a late-winter scenery where spring is not far away.

Fresh Confection 『Yume Usagi』 (Rabbit in Reverie)

The confection resembles an adorable rabbit curled up, peacefully lost in a deep sleep. Smooth bean paste fills the pillowy soft mochi dough.
