【Tokyo Midtown Store Gallery】50th Exhibit: Eggs, Eggs, and More Eggs!

From 1 November until 26 February 2025, Toraya will hold an exhibition on eggs at the Tokyo Midtown Store Gallery.

Eggs are the only exception to the primarily plant-based ingredients used in Wagashi (traditional Japanese confections).Eggs are used as a cooking　ingredient all over the world, and a wide variety of dishes and processed products have been created using eggs.

For many years in Japan, eggs were considered to be a forbidden food, but the food culture of eating eggs was introduced in the 16th century through trade with Portugal and Spain, and gradually spread throughout Japan after the Edo period (1603-1867).
Today, the annual consumption of eggs per person in Japan is second highest in the world after Mexico, at an astonishing 339 eggs! It’s no exaggeration to say that Japanese people love eggs.

Although eggs are a popular and well-loved food, there are many things that we still do not know about them, such as how they change when cooked, and what kind of confections they are used in.
This exhibition uses models and illustrations to take a fun approach to conveying the appeal of eggs as an ingredient.
