2023 Imperial Poetry Reading Confections

Imperial New Year's Poetry Reading is an annual event where poems composed on a topic set by His Majesty the Emperor are selected and read aloud on January 15. To honor this tradition, Toraya has created limited-edition confections to represent 2023’s theme of ‘Friend'.

Capturing the theme of ‘Friend', the yokan 『No ni Ayumu』 consists of cheerful pink, yellow and green layers, evoking a memorable moment strolling through a spring meadow with a friend. Although time passes, our precious memories with dear friends never fade away.

Fresh Confection 『Tomo to no Komichi』 (Path Home with Friend)

『Tomo to no Komichi』 is a fragrant joyo manju bun (containing grated yam) with a winding path motif. With soft pink and yellow details added, the confection recalls fond memories of walking home after a long day with friends.
